The Kalmiopsis Audubon Society is one of the participating members of the Wild Rivers Forest Collaborative, a group of diverse organizations who are working together to promote public engagement and education around forest management and ecosystem issues in our area.
The WRCFC worked with the US Forest Service to develop the Shasta Agness Landscape Restoration project, a fairly large restoration and timber harvest project surrounding the Agness area. This project’s goal is to restore oak savannas and pine forests that have suffered from the effects of fire suppression, thereby also increasing the wildfire resilience of these ecosystems. KAS has remained involved in the Collaborative both to stay informed about the project and to voice our support for an ecosystem restoration focus.
The Collaborative is also working on community education and outreach regarding wildfire protection and Sudden Oak Death.
