The strength of our organization is rooted in our connection to our place. We have a track record of being credible, reliable advocates. We have a wide network of partners and have built successful coalitions. While we are proactive in identifying and responding to threats, we take a conversational, personal approach to discourse and foster a culture of advocacy. Our focus is terrestrial issues with an emphasis on public lands, rivers, birds, fish and wildlife. Conservation advocacy is our greatest strength, and our aim is to work to bolster our past successes by fostering new conservation leaders and making our work sustainable in the long term.
Our Conservation Advocacy:
Our conservation strategy has an emphasis on terrestrial conservation:
- Public lands, land use
- Rivers
- Birds, fish, wildlife
- Rare plants
Our conservation advocacy is grassroots, with these objectives:
- Focus on local places and our connection to them
- Apply local knowledge and credibility
- Cultivate members that will show up in force when needed
- Work in personal connections; conversational vs. confrontational
- Work in coalitions to garner strength on larger issues and “shore up” in areas where we lack expertise
- Maintain a wide network of partners
Conservation advocacy is the central focus and greatest strength of our organization, and we are continually working toward long-term sustainability by investing in and engaging our community members in our work.
