Bird Counts

These community bird counts are a great way to hone in on your birding skills, meet other birders, and add to long-term data sets. Please consider joining in!

Christmas Bird Count

Each year around Christmastime, we pick one day when our members go out to assigned locations and record all the birds they see. We then meet up for a potluck and compile all our sightings! For more information on the next Christmas bird count, contact Tim Rodenkirk at timrodenkirk@gmail.com

The National Audubon Society published a climate report in 2009 based on 40 years of Christmas Bird Count Data. Community science matters!

Great Backyard Bird Count, YOUR backyard

The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is a four-day count held each February with the goal of creating a real-time snapshot of bird numbers and where birds are –all across the globe. This year’s count will take place from Feb. 17-20. It’s free, fun, easy, and it helps birds. For more info about how to help, go to Great Backyard Bird Count website: www.birdcount.org. It’s fun to get sightings from Curry County on the national map!
